Restoration of mobility is a central focus of rehabilitation. Little systematic research has however been done. The theoretical importance of a longitudinal research approach is beyond doubt: knowledge today is solely based on empirical data and cross-sectional training studies in long-term SCI. Such a longitudinal approach will contribute to the theoretical understanding and modelling of restoration of mobility and its associations with impairments, disabilities and handicap.

Objectives

The hypothesis of the prospective cohort study is that restoration of mobility can only be successfully attained through specific training and improvement of the individual physical and physiological characteristics of the cardio-respiratory and musculo-skeletal systems.
